Installing Sky Plus
It is incredibly easy to install Sky Plus yourself, so long as you are prepared
to get up a ladder and run an extra cable to the Sky Plus receiver.
If you are installing Sky Plus from scratch, read installing
Sky Television first (here).
To upgrade a standard Sky installation to a Sky Plus installation.
- All you need to do is to change the LNB on the dish, for
a quad LNB (included with the Sky Plus) this is because a Sky Plus receiver has two
tuners, both of which work completely independent of each other and therefore
need a separate feed from the dish.
- Run a cable from one of the spare ports on the LNB to the
Sky Plus receiver, you will then have the two feeds required for the Sky Plus receiver.
- Contact Sky on 08702 404040 and inform them you now have
a Sky Plus receiver, they will then activate your card for you.
- A Sky plus receiver can be used as a normal Sky receiver
with just one input. However you will NOT be able to record! Simply connect the
LNB feed into LNB input 1.
- If you subscribe to a Sky package above £30 per month
Sky Plus is free, if you subscribe to any other package, or do not subscribe at
all Sky Plus will cost you £10 per month.
- The LNB supplied is a quad LNB, this actually has
four independent outputs, so you will have two spare, if you want you can move
your existing Sky receiver to another room and connect it to one of the spare
outputs from the quad LNB. You can then get a second viewing card from Sky. This
will cost an extra £10
per month, but will clone your original Sky card, so you can watch two different
channels at the same time.
